Our Source Is Our Strength: Direct from the Earth’s Most Iconic Mines
What makes us different? Ownership and access. Unlike conventional retailers, we source directly from the origin — cutting out middlemen and ensuring every gem is ethically mined, expertly cut, and thoroughly certified.
Below is a curated list of mines we own or directly source from — each with a rich geological story and world-class reputation.
EMERALDS
SWAT Emeralds – Pakistan (We Own These Mines)
Located in the rugged mountains of Swat Valley, Pakistan, these mines are revered for producing vibrant green emeralds with excellent transparency and minimal inclusions.
- Shamozai Mine: Known for producing high-saturation green emeralds with fine clarity. Often used in high-jewellery collections.
- Mangora Mine: Offers deep green stones with slight blue undertones. Highly valued by international buyers.
- Shangla (Aimney) Mine: This lesser-known mine yields exceptionally clear emeralds ideal for custom luxury settings.
Why It’s Famous:
The Swat region was historically known as “Asia’s Colombia” due to its emerald quality. Our ownership ensures vertical integration and direct traceability.
Afghan Emeralds – Panjsher Valley & Beyond
Afghan emeralds are among the world’s most coveted, rivaling Colombian emeralds in both colour and clarity.
- Panjsher Mine: Located in Afghanistan’s Panjsher Valley, this source is globally recognized for its rich bluish-green stones with velvety textures.
- Qamar Safaid Mine: Produces smaller but intensely coloured stones. Popular for investment-grade and collector’s stones.
- Mikiney Mine: Considered one of the rarest emerald sources; stones from Mikiney are often more expensive than Colombian due to their exceptional brilliance and minimal inclusions.
Why It’s Famous:
Afghanistan’s mountainous terrain yields emeralds of vivid tone and exceptional purity. Panjsher Valley stones are a staple in high jewellery auctions.
RUBIES
Kashmir Ruby – Pakistan
A rare treasure from the northern areas of Pakistan, Kashmir rubies are highly sought after for their natural fluorescence and rich red tones.
- BataKundi Mine: Known for rubies with a crimson-red body colour and strong internal glow under light.
- Nangi Maali Mine: Yields rubies with a strong pinkish-red hue and silk-like inclusions — highly desirable among gemologists.
Why It’s Famous:
Kashmir rubies are extremely rare and can rival Burmese rubies in quality, offering superior saturation and legendary origins.
Afghan Ruby – Jhakdalak Mine
Located in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan, Jhakdalak is an ancient ruby mine with a centuries-old legacy.
Why It’s Famous:
The mine produces intensely saturated rubies with pink and purple overtones. Its historical significance and the gem’s fine crystalline structure make it a rare find.
SAPPHIRES
Kashmir Sapphires – Pakistan & India
Some of the world’s most valuable sapphires have been mined in Kashmir, known for their “cornflower blue” tone and silky appearance.
- Neelum Valley Mine (Pakistan-administered Kashmir): This source yields sapphires with a unique velvety texture and deep blue hue.
- Jammu & Kashmir Mine (Indian-administered): One of the oldest and most prestigious sapphire mines in the world, though currently limited in operation.
Why It’s Famous:
Kashmir sapphires are among the most coveted gems globally. Their unparalleled depth of colour and rarity make them auction darlings and collector favourites.
Sri Lanka Sapphires – Ceylon Blue (Ratnapura Mine)
The Ratnapura region is Sri Lanka’s “City of Gems,” producing world-renowned Ceylon sapphires that range from pale cornflower blue to deep royal hues.
Why It’s Famous:
Ceylon sapphires are known for their high clarity, lively brilliance, and subtle colour gradations. They are popular in both antique and contemporary jewellery designs.
AQUAMARINE
Aquamarine – Northern Pakistan
- Shagar Mine: Yields crystal-clear aquamarine with icy blue to teal tones. Ideal for fine jewellery pieces.
- Nagar Mine: Produces stones with a unique seafoam tint, often used in high-value cocktail rings and pendants.
Why It’s Famous:
Pakistani aquamarine is gaining international attention for its purity, vibrant colour, and excellent transparency. The high elevation contributes to slow crystal formation, enhancing clarity.
PERIDOT
Kohistan Mine – Pakistan
Peridot from Kohistan is bright olive green with minimal inclusions — often compared favourably with peridot from Arizona and Myanmar.
Why It’s Famous:
Kohistan peridot is prized for its high brilliance, large sizes, and naturally vibrant lime-green hues. It’s a favourite for bespoke birthstone jewellery and high-end earrings.
TOURMALINE
Tourmaline – Kashmir & Afghanistan
- Both regions yield multiple colours of tourmaline, including watermelon, pink, chrome green, and paraiba-like hues (in rare cases).
Why It’s Famous:
Tourmaline from this region is exceptionally lustrous, well-formed, and available in larger sizes, making it ideal for statement pieces and collector’s sets.
TOPAZ
Katlang Mine – Pakistan
Katlang is one of the only known sources of natural pink, brown, and imperial topaz in South Asia.
Why It’s Famous:
Natural pink and imperial topaz from Katlang is exceptionally rare, untreated, and highly valued for investment-grade stones. The mine produces topaz with remarkable clarity and natural brilliance.
